MY INSPIRATION
Eris Tran, Style Analysis and Personal Development
Eris has a ‘traditional’ fashion illustrative style that can be commonly seen in the fashion illustration industry. His illustrative style is influenced by luxury fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen and couture fashion designers such as Dior and Chanel. Eris’ illustrative figures are always full bodied and front facing.
This was one of the few illustrative designs of Eris’ that consisted of causal womenswear garments. I found that Eris draws a large amount of dresses, which would be greatly influenced by his inspiration from Couture fashion houses. In this drawing, Eris has used a stripe pattern which adds an element of variety to his work as he mainly just adds block colour to his designs. Eris always builds up skin tone by layering colour using either markers or coloured pencils – a technique used often in fashion illustration.
The two above illustrations were of interest to me as they included backgrounds in the sketches. I liked how the illustration on the left had an animal background which complemented the warm and cool colours of the garment. The illustration on the right also had a complementary coloured leaf background in relation to the cool colours used in the dress. Both these backgrounds had a nature inspired theme.
I am including the sketch above as part of the style analysis as Eris can use backgrounds that includes landmarks – such as the image above which has the landmark of Big Ben in London. I hope to include a local landmark such as Harland and Wolff Cranes in Belfast to add a personal touch to my final illustrations background.
Eris Trans Inspiration For Illustration
I’m including this image from Eris’ published work as it shows how he was influenced by textiles and furnishings – yet this illustration is a couture piece. Overall, I personally liked elements of Eris’ work – yet found that many of the garments (such as the one pictured above) would be difficult to interpret into everyday womenswear garments for a part of my design assignment. One such way in which I could use this above image (in relation to the garment) is to possibly use the garment texture as an aspect of embroidery detail on an everyday garment.
The above illustrations are a few examples of what Eris has interpreted as a floral trend that are inspired by luxury fashion brand Dolce and Gabanna. This is another example of how Eris has used patterns instead of using a singular colour in his illustrations.
